🔨 Hammertime BFF Bikes Team Training Ride
Sunday Training Rides Will Resume Spring of 2018. During the fall we do cyclocross! We’ll be at the Chicago Cross Cup races– look for our tent and come say hi!
When & Where: Every Sunday morning we leave BFF Bikes (2113 W Armitage) at 8am. Please arrive a few minutes early.
What to Expect:
Join the BFF Bikes Racing team on their fast-paced, 45 mile Sunday training ride. The team’s goals for these rides is to increase speed, gain fitness and improve group riding skills. We ride in a rotating paceline and practice advanced riding skills. The speed ranges between 18-22mph as we ride out of the city. We pick up the pace once outside of Chicago and have designated interval and sprint points. There will be a sweeper who will be riding along with the slowest riders to ensure they make it to the turn around spot. We stop in Highland Park for a quick coffee break before turning back.
The team’s training ride is a challenging ride, but we encourage and expect a range of abilities. It’s common for the pack to fragment into smaller groups. If you can’t stay with the leaders, a sweeper rider will be there to ride with you to the the turn around spot. However, do try to stay with the group! Here are some tips to help you if you can’t at first. If you do get dropped, come back the next week and see how much longer you can stay with the pack. Soon you’ll be leading everyone during a sprint!
If you are new to training rides, please attend our Beginner Training Rides, the first Sunday of the month. There you will learn important basics to ensure a safe and fun ride.
Road bike without tri-handle bars
Flat repair kit and knowledge to fix a flat (not sure how to fix a flat? Come to BFF’s monthly fix a flat clinic!)
Credit card or cash for coffee, etc
Breakfast in your stomach!
While not required, we highly recommend wearing clipless shoes!
On occasion we will keep riding north past Highland Park and make this a 75 mile-ish ride! Ride updates will be posted on Twitter and Facebook.
